WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS

Employment Pass

Who can apply: Employment Pass is for foreign professionals, managers, and executives. To be eligible for this, he has to offer them employment in Singapore and draw a minimum of 4,500 SGD per month (more experienced applicants will command higher salaries).

Features:
  • It gives permission to the holder to stay and work in Singapore.
  • It is valid for two years from the first issue and renewable every three years.
  • Dependent passes are also available to the immediate family members of the applicant.

Application Process: The employer has to apply for the candidate. Submission of a detailed application will have to be submitted to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), and it will take up to 3 weeks for approval.

S Pass

Who can apply: The S Pass is meant for mid level skilled staff. The minimum fixed monthly salary that has to be met is SGD 2,500, including relevant qualifications and work experience.

Features:
  • The pass is valid for two years, but the employment for the holder of the pass may continue to be renewed.
  • A quota system applies, limiting the number of S Pass holders a company can employ.

Application Process: The employer does the application process for S Passes. The application involves a point based assessment system at the time of evaluation to consider salary, education qualifications, skills, types of jobs, and experience.

Overseas Networks & Expertise Pass

Who can apply: The target audience of the ONE Pass includes high caliber professionals who will be or are engaged in business investments or holding or managerial or technical employment activity in Singapore. The last drawn fixed monthly salary of the applicant should be no less than 30,000 SGD, and they should also show outstanding achievements in the field.

Features:
  • Provides flexibility as it does not need an employer’s sponsorship.
  • Valid for 5 years and renewable.
  • Allow holders to start, run, and work for more than one firm in Singapore.

Application Process: This requires direct application to MOM and involves much documentation, which includes the applicant’s achievements and earnings.

WORK PERMIT

Who can apply: The Work Permits are designed for semi skilled Foreign Workers in the following areas: construction, manufacturing, shipyard building, or marine process/services.

Features:
  • The Work Permit validity applies differently in sector : Renewable, with an extension that lasts up to two years.
  • Subject to levies and quotas as per the individual sector requirements.

Application Process: Employers apply to and on behalf of the employees, following a set of sector specific criteria tightly controlled by the government for effective restriction of inflow of foreign workforces into these sectors.

MINIMUM QUALIFYING SALARY

The qualifying salary presently is at S$5,000 for all sectors except Finance at S$5,500. More experienced candidates must receive higher salaries: the minimum monthly salary increases with age, starting at age 23 and reaching up to S$10,500 for those aged 45 and above. That said, MOM generally considers all cases individually, including circumstances surrounding each application, including whether a sector and/or job scope is in high demand.

How long does it take from application to issuance?

It typically takes about three weeks for an EP application to be processed, provided all required documents are in order.

Are there any Job Posting Requirements?

Employers must advertise the job vacancy on the MyCareersFuture portal for at least 28 days before applying for an EP, to prioritize local candidates.

How soon before expiry can I renew my EP?

Applications should be submitted around six months before the EP’s expiry date.

S PASS

How long does it take from application to issuance?

Processing time is similar to an EP, about one to eight weeks.

Are there any Job Posting Requirements?

Similar to the EP, a job vacancy must be advertised on the MyCareersFuture portal for at least 28 days before applying for an S Pass.

Can I renew my S Pass multiple times?

Yes, but the maximum duration of an S Pass varies depending on the applicant s sector and qualifications.

ONE PASS

What makes the ONE Pass different from an EP or S Pass?

The ONE Pass offers greater flexibility, allowing holders to work for multiple companies simultaneously and with more extended validity period (5 years).

Are there any Job Posting Requirements?

There are no mandatory job posting requirements for Work Permit applications, but sector specific guidelines and quotas apply.

Can ONE Pass Visa Be Renewed?

Yes, the Overseas Networks and Expertise Pass can be renewed. The initial duration of the pass is five years. ONE Pass can be renewed multiple times for another period of five years if the renewal conditions are met.

WORK PERMIT

How long does it take from application to issuance?

Work Permit processing times vary by sector but generally take around 1 to 7 working days after submission.

Are there any Job Posting Requirements?

There are no job posting requirements for the ONE Pass as it does not require sponsorship by an employer.

How soon before the expiry can I renew my WP?

Renewals should be submitted at least 30 days before the expiry of the current Work Permit.
